The 10 Best Movies of 2025

The 10 Best Movies of 2025

It's that time of year again! Time to make lists and share my favorite movies of 2025. Below, I'll be sharing my 10 favorites (and some honorable mentions). New this year, I'll be sharing where you can stream or view these movies. I figure that might save time and add one more reason to check out a list like this.

Again, this year, I was honored to contribute a list to RogerEbert.com. If you’d like to see that list and lists from other journalists who’ve made contributions to the website, click here. Hopefully, you’ll find another good movie to watch because that’s what lists like these are for.

If you'd like to listen to my (and my co-host Evan Crean) talk about our top ten lists, you can hear us talk about it during the new episode of the It's the Pictures podcast.

10. Train Dreams

(Now Streaming on Netflix)

More: Caught up with this Sundance darling after it premiered on Netflix, and I was really impressed by it. While it reminded me a lot of another feature this year (The Life of Chuck), Train Dreams reminded me of what I enjoyed about the films of Terrence Malick without needing to be a Malick film.

7. Sinners

(Now Streaming on HBO Max)

More: One of the few movies on this list I haven't previously written anything about, but probably the one that needs no introduction. Director Ryan Coogler stepped away from franchise filmmaking (Creed, Blank Panther) to make a passion project of his own. Completely original and filled to the brim with fantastic performances, music, production design, and more. Sinners is the type of movie Hollywood doesn't make anymore (arguably, that they never made in the first place). I saw some great writing on what Sinners meant for Hollywood that I wanted to share. While I can't imagine many of you haven't seen Sinners yet, if you haven't, you need to fix that.
