The Best Blu-ray and 4K Discs of 2025

The Best Blu-ray and 4K Discs of 2025

Going through some of my favorite home video releases of 2025

Who even buys movies on disc anymore? If you haven't purchased a physical movie release in a long time, there are plenty of compelling reasons to do so. The titles below feature some of my favorite releases of 2025 (movies I own), and ones I think you might enjoy as well.

Where to Buy Physical Media in 2025?
Without Best Buy and Target, where can you buy movies?

While I'm certain there are more exhaustive lists out there (and honestly, it depends on what genre you love), I found this list from the AV Forums.

I recorded a video talking about my favorite releases, if you'd enjoy that instead of the list below:

The NeverEnding Story (Imprint)

So this one is kind of a cheat because Imprint released an even more deluxe version of this at the end of 2024. But I wasn't going to pay that crazy amount, so I waited and ended up with this release. Some things are missing from that initial release, like a documentary talking with some of the stars of The NeverEnding Story in 2024, and I think one of the German release cuts. But all in all, this is still the same fantastic 4K restoration, but with a more affordable price point.

Eyes Wide Shut (Criterion)

A grail release. For a long time, fans desired Eyes Wide Shut on Criterion, and this year it finally happened. What an absolute joy to have this one in my collection now.

Flow (Criterion)

I wasn't big on Flow during the Oscars push last year (it ended up winning), but its undoubtably a beautiful film. Criterion gave the Oscar-winning animated feature a stunning box set that's well worth exploring.

Sinners (WB)

The definitive way to see Sinners at home. Ryan Coogler and Warner Bros. hit it out of the park with this one, and the movie is pretty fantastic to boot.

Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (Disney)

Seeing Master and Commander again after all these years was a treat. I can't imagine a movie like this being made in 2025, but thankfully, we'll have this one to cherish.

Dark City (Arrow)

An underrated Sci-fi comes home in one of the best collector sets Arrow released in 2025. While the Collector's edition of Dark City is OOP now, Arrow does sell a standard version that houses the beautiful restoration. Arrow normally has a sale at B&N in January/February, and I'd suggest adding this one to your list.

The Good, The Bad and the Ugly (Arrow)

The import of the year. Arrow released the Dollars Trilogy exclusively to the Region B market, but thankfully, 4K UHD discs are region-free. While you won't be able to enjoy the exhaustive special features without a region-free Blu-ray player, the movie is still here in the best home presentation possible.

The Fall (Umbrella)

The Fall has been OOP for several years, but following a streaming debut on Mubi, the movie was released on 4K disc from Umbrella. While this is still considered an import, you can pick this up for many independent sellers, and it will play fine on your 4K UHD player.

The Nice Guys (Second Sight)

Another underrated movie, The Nice Guys, received a beautiful release from the team over at Second Sight. While there is a region A disc available, the Second Sight disc is the one to get. Also, if you like horror movies, Second Sight releases some of the most beautiful box sets around.

Hard Boiled (Shout! Factory)

I'm so happy to have Hard Boiled on 4K disc. I did some writing about this one already.

John Woo’s Masterpiece Hard Boiled Has Never Looked Better
Director John Woo will be familiar to most North American film fans for his work on Hard Target, Mission: Impossible 2, and Face/Off– mostly mediocre action films that have their fans. What audiences might not know is that before Woo came to America, he directed a fantastic run of

Amadeus (WB)

I love Amadeus. It's an incredible movie with some absolutely wonderful costume design. I don't think any home video release of the movie has done it justice until this one. Add in the fact that this is my preferred cut of the film (theatrical), and this easily goes into my pile of favorites.
